It concluded, approximately forty-seven minutes later, with a slide reading 'Workforce Optimization Initiative: Right-Sizing For Tomorrow's Challenges,' beneath a stock image of a single rowboat, empty, on a foggy lake.

Brunt, who described the presentation as 'thematically cohesive,' held for questions.

There were many.

'I just want to be clear,' said distribution coordinator Pamela Osei, according to witnesses, 'that we started on a full boat and ended on a boat with no one in it.' Brunt confirmed this was accurate and described the visual arc as 'intentional and also metaphorical.' When asked what the metaphor was, he said the word 'transition' and then clicked to a blank slide that read 'Q&A.'

The company's Chief People Officer, Darlene Fuchs, was asked to clarify whether the workforce optimization initiative referred to layoffs.
