Jets Select David Bailey with Second Overall Pick, Immediately Wonder If They Meant Different David Bailey

NEW YORK - In what team officials are calling either a "bold strategic move" or "the most Jets thing ever," the New York Jets selected David Bailey with the second overall pick in this year's draft, despite growing concerns that they may have been looking at the Wikipedia page for the wrong David Bailey.

The confusion reportedly began during the team's pre-draft research when General Manager Joe Douglas became impressed by Bailey's "incredible ability to capture defensive positions" and his "legendary work in the field," not realizing the scouting report was actually a photography exhibition review from 1975.

"Look, we needed help after giving up 503 points last season," said head coach Robert Saleh, squinting at what appeared to be a black-and-white portrait of Mick Jagger. "And this Bailey guy has clearly demonstrated an eye for stopping action. That's exactly what our defense needs."

The 86-year-old British photographer, who was reportedly "quite chuffed" to receive the news while tending to his garden in London, has agreed to show up to training camp with his camera equipment and "see what all the fuss is about."

"I've photographed the Krays, so I reckon I can handle a few American football players," Bailey said via telephone, adding that he hopes the Jets' uniform colors will photograph well in natural lighting.

Team owner Woody Johnson defended the pick, noting that Bailey's extensive experience with "shoots" should translate well to preventing opposing teams from scoring touchdowns, though he admitted he was "slightly confused" by the prospect's portfolio of nude portraits.

At press time, the Jets were reportedly considering trading their third-round pick for David Attenborough to bolster their nature documentary coverage.
