Local Man Posthumously Wins 'Best Austin Bar Regular' Award He Never Knew He Was Competing For

AUSTIN, TX — In a touching ceremony that nobody saw coming, Jorge Pederson, 30, was posthumously honored with the Austin Bar Association's "Most Dedicated Patron" award, beating out over 50,000 other bar regulars who also had no idea they were being judged.

The award, which comes with a crystal beer mug engraved with "You Literally Gave Your Life For This Place," recognizes Pederson's unwavering commitment to supporting local establishments even in the face of extreme adversity.

"Jorge embodied everything we look for in a bar patron," said Association President Martha Brewinski, wiping away tears with a cocktail napkin. "Rain or shine, good times or bad times, even during active shooter situations, Jorge was there for the bars of Austin. That's dedication you just can't teach."

The award ceremony, held at the very bar where Pederson earned his title, featured a 21-beer salute and a moment of silence that was only broken by someone accidentally triggering the jukebox.

Pederson's family expressed bewilderment at the honor, noting that Jorge had only been to that particular bar twice and spent most of both visits complaining about the overpriced drinks and sticky floors.

"We're proud, I guess?" said his sister Maria Pederson. "Though I feel like there might have been better ways to honor his memory than giving him an award for being in the wrong place at the wrong time."

The Austin Bar Association announced they will be retiring Pederson's barstool and installing a small plaque that reads: "Reserved for Jorge: Gone But Not Forgotten, Unlike His Tab."
