Local Man's Mother Finally Admits He's 'Pretty Good' at Talking Into Microphone After Son Wins Prestigious Award

SANTO DOMINGO — In what witnesses are calling 'the most Dominican thing ever witnessed,' beloved radio personality Jochy Santos dramatically presented his newly won Gran Soberano award to his mother Wednesday night, prompting her to finally acknowledge that his career choice of 'talking really loud into a metal stick' might actually be legitimate work.
Santos, who has spent decades perfecting the art of speaking enthusiastically about things while invisible people listen, received the prestigious 2026 Gran Soberano award from the Association of Art Critics, immediately causing him to ugly-cry like a contestant on a reality cooking show.
'I always knew this day would come,' said Santos' mother, Esperanza Santos, 67, while simultaneously adjusting his tie and checking if he had enough meat on his bones. 'Ever since he was little, talking to himself in his room, I thought maybe he had problems. Turns out people pay him for this.'
The emotional moment reportedly lasted seventeen minutes, during which Santos' mother alternated between proud tears and offering him a Tupperware container of leftover pollo guisado she had brought 'just in case he looked skinny under those stage lights.'
Witnesses confirm that despite winning one of the highest honors in Dominican entertainment, Santos' mother still asked if he was sure he didn't want to go back to school to become a doctor 'porque mira que todavía tienes tiempo, mi amor.'
The Gran Soberano award will reportedly be displayed on Santos' mother's living room shelf, right between his first communion photo and a statue of the Virgin Mary.
