Local Man Wins So Many Dominican Music Awards He Runs Out of Shelf Space, Forced to Store Trophies in Refrigerator

SANTO DOMINGO â In what can only be described as the most successful problem anyone could ever have, Dominican musicians Omega and El Chaval de la Bachata have reportedly run out of places to put their awards after sweeping yet another category at the 2026 Premios Soberano ceremony.
"I had to throw out all my leftover mangĂș just to fit my latest trophy next to the milk," said Omega, whose real name translates to "The Last Letter of the Greek Alphabet But Also Apparently the First in Winning Everything." "My neighbors think I'm showing off, but honestly, where else am I supposed to put a 3-foot golden microphone statue?"
El Chaval de la Bachata, whose stage name literally means "The Bachata Kid" despite being 34 years old, has resorted to even more creative storage solutions. Sources close to the artist report he's been using smaller awards as paperweights, doorstops, and in one instance, a makeshift table leg after his coffee table broke.
"At first it was exciting," El Chaval explained while polishing a trophy with a dish towel. "But now I can't open my bathroom door without knocking over my 2023 'Best Use of Accordion in a Romantic Ballad' award. My girlfriend says it's me or the trophies, but honestly, the trophies were here first."
The 41st anniversary gala of Acroarte has been described by witnesses as "aggressively Dominican" and "the musical equivalent of your tĂa's house during Christmas â too much of everything, but somehow perfect." The ceremony lasted 847 minutes, breaking the previous record by exactly 12 hours.
Event organizers have announced they're considering implementing a "mercy rule" for future ceremonies, limiting artists to a maximum of 47 awards per night to prevent what they're calling "Residential Trophy Overflow Syndrome."
"We never anticipated this level of success," admitted ceremony director MarĂa FernĂĄndez. "We're now looking into partnerships with local furniture stores to provide complimentary trophy cabinets, or possibly just renting out warehouse space."
At press time, both artists were reportedly considering a joint garage sale to make room for next year's inevitable winnings.
