Local Montana Congressman Resigns After Discovering Job Requires Actually Going to Montana

BILLINGS, MT — Republican Congressman Ryan Zinke announced his resignation from office Tuesday after the shocking discovery that his job requires him to occasionally visit a place called "Montana," which he had previously assumed was an elaborate code name for the Capitol Hill Marriott.

"I thought Montana was just what we called the breakfast buffet area," said Zinke during a press conference held via Zoom from what appeared to be a Starbucks in Arlington, Virginia. "Imagine my surprise when my GPS led me to this vast, confusing landscape filled with actual mountains and people who don't wear suits."

Zinke, who served as Interior Secretary under Trump and later won Montana's new congressional seat, reportedly spent his entire tenure representing what he believed were the 47 residents of the Marriott's extended-stay wing. Local Montana residents began questioning their representation when Zinke's only legislative achievements included a bill mandating continental breakfast until 11 AM and a resolution declaring the hotel fitness center "historically significant."

"We kept wondering why our congressman's office address was listed as 'Room 847, near the ice machine,'" said Billings resident Martha Henderson. "But the real red flag was when he tried to get federal funding for better Wi-Fi in the lobby."

The revelation came during what was supposed to be Zinke's first official visit to his home state, when his driver informed him they would need to travel more than six floors to reach their destination. "I started getting suspicious when we left the beltway," Zinke admitted. "And when I saw my first actual bear, I knew something had gone terribly wrong."

Zinke cited "health problems" in his resignation letter, specifically noting his "severe allergic reaction to wide open spaces" and "debilitating fear of constituents who own pickup trucks." He plans to return to his true calling of representing luxury hotel amenities and complimentary soap dispensers.

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte praised Zinke's service, noting, "Ryan may not have known where Montana was, but his passion for hospitality legislation was unmatched. Thanks to him, every government building in the state now has those little coffee pods."
