PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT: Edmonton Mass Weigh-In Continuity Bureau Confirms 28 Adult Humans Were Found To Possess Bodies Of Measurable Mass At The Moment Of Measurement, Gravitational Compliance Analysts Describe Fighters As 'Present, Dense, And Weighing What They Weighed'

EDMONTON, ALBERTA — The Edmonton Regional Athletic Body Mass Verification and Public Continuity Bureau issued a formal Level 2 Public Safety Alert late Friday following what officials described as a 'statistically aberrant and frankly disorienting' mass-confirmation event at the UFC Edmonton weigh-ins, during which all fighters were found to have bodies, those bodies were found to have weight, and that weight was found to fall within parameters established in advance by people whose job it is to establish parameters.

'We want to be very clear,' said Dr. Harlan Putwick, Chair of the Interagency Scale Reconciliation Task Force and lead author of the Bureau's 714-page preliminary findings. 'Every athlete approached the scale. Every athlete stood on the scale. The scale, upon receiving each athlete, produced a number. That number was then read aloud by a person. The number was the correct number. This occurred repeatedly, across all participants, with no interruption to the sequence.'

Dr. Putwick paused at this point in the press conference. An aide handed him a glass of water. He did not drink it.

'We don't fully understand it yet,' he continued.

The findings, submitted simultaneously to the Journal of Athlete Mass Continuity and the Canadian Department of Things That Happened At Weigh-Ins, establish with 99.7% confidence that the fighters weighed what they weighed, that they weighed it in Edmonton, and that Canada — the country in which Edmonton is geographically located — was the confirmed setting of this mass verification event. Peer reviewers described the methodology as 'rigorous, scale-dependent, and upsetting in its simplicity.'

Authorities are particularly concerned about what one internal memo called 'the complete and total absence of anyone not making weight,' a scenario modeled extensively in emergency preparedness drills but never, officials noted, previously ruled out so decisively in a single afternoon.

'Our simulations always assumed at least one anomaly,' said Brenda Foss, Deputy Director of the Bureau's Scale Outcome Prediction Division. 'Someone a quarter-pound over. A disputed reading. A fighter who misunderstood what a scale was for. We had seventeen contingency protocols. We used none of them. They're still in the binder.'

Foss held up the binder. It was thick.

The Bureau is urging Edmonton residents to update their personal risk assessments in light of the findings, noting that a city in which all fighters make weight is also a city in which, statistically, other orderly outcomes may now occur with increased frequency. Officials stopped short of specifying what those outcomes might be, but described the general environment as 'compliance-forward and scale-positive.'

The UFC's return to Canada is now officially confirmed for Saturday. All fighters, having been weighed, are expected to fight. Scientists say they will be watching closely.

'If they also all throw punches,' Dr. Putwick said, gathering his notes, 'we will need a much bigger binder.'
