Regional Cinema Authority Issues Formal Warning That Popcorn Bag Is Now Empty, Encourages Patrons To Acknowledge This At Their Own Pace

MILLHAVEN — The Millhaven Office of Community Wellness and Leisure Safety is asking residents to remain calm following a developing situation at the Millhaven 6-Plex Cinema on Route 9, where end credits for the 7:10 p.m. Friday screening of 'Thunder Patrol 2: The Reckoning' have been confirmed by multiple sources to be actively and continuously rolling, despite the film having concluded.
As of press time, six audience members remain in their seats in Theater Four. Authorities describe the mood inside as 'pensive but non-hostile.' One individual in the third row has been observed eating the cardboard interior of an empty popcorn container.
'We want to be clear: this is not an emergency,' said Millhaven Community Safety Coordinator Donna Precht, speaking at a podium erected in the cinema lobby beside a display of upcoming family films. 'But it is a situation. And situations, in our experience, benefit from guidance.'
Precht confirmed that theater staff had dimmed the house lights to 'transitional level' approximately eleven minutes ago, a signal which experts say typically communicates to audiences that the cinematic experience has entered its concluding phase.
'The lights coming up is widely understood to be a social cue,' said Dr. Ferdinand Lope, Chair of Audience Behavioral Studies at the Greater Millhaven Community College Extension Program. 'We do not yet know why it has not functioned in this case. We are treating that as a secondary question.'
Dr. Lope, who was reached by phone and asked to come downtown immediately, arrived in a vest and described the situation as 'unprecedented in the Route 9 corridor' but noted that similar events have been documented in larger metro areas, 'though never formally studied because no one thought it would happen twice.'
Theater manager Glenn Achuff confirmed that a staff member had entered Theater Four at the fourteen-minute mark to collect cups and was met with what he described as 'a lot of eye contact but very little movement.'
'We're not going to ask anyone to leave,' Achuff told reporters, adjusting his headset. 'That's not who we are. But we do have a 9:45 showing of the same film, and we'd like to begin preparations, including the vacuuming.'
Authorities are reminding the public that the credits, while informative, are not believed to contain additional plot content, though Precht acknowledged that 'a mid-credits scene cannot be entirely ruled out at this time, and we are monitoring that aspect closely.'
A representative from the Millhaven Volunteer Fire Department was briefly on scene but confirmed there was no fire and left.
Citizens with information about whether any of the remaining six audience members have vehicles in the parking lot that may be blocking others are encouraged to contact the non-emergency line. Officials stress that the situation remains fluid, the credits remain rolling, and the janitorial cart has been staged in the hallway as a symbolic gesture of optimism.
'We've been through harder things than this,' said Mayor Tom Bielke, who was not present but released a statement. 'Millhaven will get through Theater Four.'
This is a developing story. Channel 4 will provide updates as credits continue.
