Utah Prosecutors Conclude Woman's Scratching Technique Legally Classified as 'Aggressive Petting'

SALT LAKE CITY — In a landmark decision that will forever change how couples resolve disputes, Utah prosecutors announced they will not pursue domestic violence charges against reality star Taylor Frankie Paul, ruling that her alleged scratching, shoving, and striking of her ex-boyfriend constituted 'vigorous affection' rather than assault.

'After careful analysis of the evidence, we determined that Ms. Paul's actions fell within the acceptable range of what we're now calling Extreme Relationship Maintenance,' explained District Attorney Jennifer Morrison, while demonstrating proper scratching technique on a life-sized dummy. 'The scratches were clearly administered with love, albeit very aggressive love.'

The decision came after prosecutors consulted with a panel of relationship experts, three cats, and a wolverine to establish the legal difference between domestic violence and 'spirited romantic communication.' The ex-boyfriend's injuries were ultimately classified as 'passion marks' rather than assault evidence.

'We've established new legal precedent here,' Morrison continued, adjusting her freshly bandaged arms from the demonstration. 'If someone says they love you while they're scratching you, it's technically a hug. It's right there in Utah Code 76-5-102.5, subsection 'Ouch But Okay.'

The ruling has prompted the Utah legislature to consider new relationship guidelines, including mandatory scratch-safe words and designated shoving zones in all romantic partnerships.

Paul celebrated the decision by vigorously hugging her attorney.
