Browns Reject Trade Offer After Discovering Eagles Would Only Accept Payment In Other Football Players

CLEVELAND, OH — The NFL was rocked Tuesday by revelations that the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles engaged in extended negotiations that sources close to the situation described as 'two toddlers trying to swap their lunches,' ultimately collapsing when both franchises realized neither team actually wanted what the other was offering.

The Browns, eager to trade star defensive end Myles Garrett, reportedly approached the Eagles with an offer, only to discover that Philadelphia wanted defensive tackle Jalen Carter in return — a player the Eagles already owned outright and had not, in fact, lost.

'We told them we wanted Jalen Carter,' said Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman, staring directly into a mirror. 'They said he plays for us. We said we know. There was a long pause. Someone coughed.'

The Browns, undeterred by basic logic, allegedly spent four hours on the phone attempting to negotiate a deal that would result in the Eagles giving the Browns a player currently employed by the Eagles in exchange for a different player the Browns would no longer have.

'Mathematically, we were confident we could make it work,' said Browns GM Andrew Berry, gesturing at a whiteboard covered entirely in question marks and one drawing of a sad dog. 'If you really squint at it, it almost makes sense.'

The trade ultimately fell through when a Browns intern pointed out that acquiring Jalen Carter from the Eagles would require the Eagles to actually part with Jalen Carter, a scenario the Eagles described as 'not ideal' and 'the opposite of what we wanted.'

Garrett was eventually dealt to the Los Angeles Rams, a team that reportedly offered actual draft picks instead of simply demanding the Browns return their own players to them.

'The Rams came in with a very professional offer,' Berry confirmed. 'They wanted Myles Garrett. We wanted compensation. Nobody asked for something we already had. It was genuinely refreshing.'

At press time, the Browns were reportedly exploring a new trade with the New York Jets that analysts described as 'somehow even more confusing,' while the Eagles were busy trying to trade for themselves in a three-team deal involving the ghost of Buddy Ryan.
