Carolina Hurricanes Announce Second Round Schedule Will Take Place in Actual Hurricane

RALEIGH, NC — The Carolina Hurricanes announced Tuesday that their second-round playoff series against the Philadelphia Flyers will be played entirely within the eye wall of Hurricane Gertrude, a Category 3 storm currently brewing off the coast of North Carolina.

"We've been called the Hurricanes for years, but honestly, we've never actually played in one," said team owner Tom Dundon at a press conference held inside a wind tunnel. "Our marketing department felt we were missing a huge opportunity for authentic brand synergy."

The NHL hastily approved the unconventional venue after Hurricanes management argued that playing in 120 mph winds would give neither team an unfair advantage, since both would be equally unable to control the puck, stand upright, or see through the torrential rain.

"Plus, we're saving a fortune on the fog machines for player introductions," added General Manager Eric Tulsky, shouting over the howling wind. "Mother Nature's got that covered."

Flyers coach John Tortorella reportedly responded to the announcement by simply nodding and muttering, "Yeah, that sounds about right for this season."

Game 1 is scheduled for Thursday at 8 PM EST, weather permitting, though meteorologists note the weather will definitively not be permitting.
