NBA Devastated As Brandon Clarke Dies At 29, Immediately Respawns At Nearest Checkpoint

MEMPHIS, TN — In a stunning turn of events that has rocked the professional basketball world, Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke died Tuesday at the age of 29, only to respawn approximately four seconds later at what league officials are describing as 'the nearest available checkpoint,' sources confirmed.

'We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Brandon Clarke,' the Grizzlies said in an official statement, before quickly issuing a follow-up press release reading, 'Oh wait, he's back. He's totally back. He looks fine. He does have like a weird flickering outline but the trainers say that's normal.'

Clarke, who appeared briefly translucent upon his return, told reporters he remembered 'a white light, a long hallway, and what he believes was a save icon in the bottom right corner of his vision.'

'I definitely died,' Clarke confirmed at a post-respawn press conference, pausing to collect a nearby floating health orb. 'But I had a pretty recent save, so I only lost like forty-five minutes of progress. I did have to redo a whole conversation with my agent, which was annoying.'

The NBA released a statement acknowledging the unprecedented situation, noting that while player deaths are 'not technically covered under the current collective bargaining agreement,' respawning exists in a 'legal gray area' that the Players Association has been meaning to address since 2019.

Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins said the team plans to start Clarke on Friday against the Nuggets, provided his spawn cooldown timer has fully expired.

'We're just grateful he had autosave enabled,' Jenkins said, wiping away a tear. 'Some of these guys, they turn that off to save memory. It's just not worth it, folks. It's never worth it.'

At press time, Clarke had been spotted eating a full rotisserie chicken he found in an inexplicable barrel courtside, fully restoring his health meter to maximum.
