Nicaragua Government Proudly Unveils Sick Prisoner Like He's New iPhone, Insists He's 'Totally Fine Actually'

MANAGUA — In what government spokespersons are calling 'the most transparent display of a critically ill political prisoner in recent memory,' Nicaraguan officials this week unveiled indigenous leader Brooklyn Rivera at a carefully staged press event, insisting his visibly deteriorating condition was simply 'his vibe.'

'He looks fantastic,' said government spokesperson Carlos Mendez, gesturing enthusiastically at Rivera, who was propped up in a chair like a decorative plant wearing reading glasses. 'Very vibrant. Very healthy. That gray pallor? That's called charisma.'

Officials reportedly spent three weeks planning the showcase, which included a red carpet, a balloon arch reading 'DEFINITELY NOT A HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION,' and a complimentary gift bag for attending journalists containing a stress ball and a strongly worded letter asking them not to write what they were about to write.

The event drew immediate comparisons to a car dealership unveiling a vehicle that is visibly on fire while salespeople insist buyers focus on the 'excellent cup holders.'

'We wanted full transparency,' Mendez continued, as aides strategically blocked camera angles. 'This is what a completely fine, extremely comfortable prisoner of absolutely zero conscience looks like. Frankly, he's thriving. Has he lost weight? Yes. Is that a crime? Also yes, we made that a crime last Tuesday.'

Human rights organizations worldwide condemned the display, with Amnesty International releasing a statement calling it 'the most audacious 'he's fine' since Wile E. Coyote ran off a cliff and waved goodbye.'

Rivera himself was unavailable for comment, as officials explained he was 'resting, relaxing, really just enjoying his stay,' before quickly adding that journalists were not permitted to ask him anything, look directly at him, or breathe loudly in his vicinity.

At press time, the Nicaraguan government had announced a follow-up showcase next month titled 'Brooklyn Rivera's Spectacular Wellness Retreat,' featuring a buffet table and a DJ.
