Venezuela's Victory So Shocking, US Government Demands Recount and Threatens Economic Sanctions Against Baseball

WASHINGTON — In an unprecedented move following Venezuela's first-ever World Baseball Classic championship, the White House announced Tuesday that it would be launching a full investigation into "irregularities" in the ninth inning and considering targeted sanctions against the concept of baseball itself.

"This result is clearly the work of foreign interference," said Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, gesturing wildly at a PowerPoint slide titled 'How Venezuela Cheated Using Physics and Athletic Ability.' "We have credible intelligence suggesting that Eugenio Suárez may have used performance-enhancing hand-eye coordination."

The State Department has already issued a strongly-worded statement declaring that America "does not recognize the legitimacy of any sporting event where we don't win," while the Pentagon confirmed it was reviewing military options against curveballs and changeups.

Meanwhile, Fox News has launched a 24-hour investigation into whether Venezuela's victory constitutes a communist plot to undermine American exceptionalism through superior athletic performance. "First they come for our World Baseball Classic title, then they come for our God-given right to assume we're the best at everything," warned Tucker Carlson during a 45-minute segment titled "The Venezuelan Baseball Threat to Democracy."

At press time, Congress was reportedly drafting bipartisan legislation to officially classify Venezuela's nine players as "weapons of mass distraction" and ban the use of bats, balls, and hope in future international competitions.
