WhatsApp Introduces 'Liquid Glass' Interface, Immediately Trapping 47 Beta Testers Inside Their Phones

SAN FRANCISCO — WhatsApp's highly anticipated Liquid Glass redesign took a troubling turn this week after the latest TestFlight beta build resulted in 47 volunteer testers becoming molecularly fused with their iPhones, sources confirmed Tuesday.

'We wanted the interface to feel immersive,' said WhatsApp design lead Trevor Hollis, gesturing at a wall of phones containing tiny screaming men. 'Mission accomplished, honestly.'

The update, which promises smoother message reactions and more visually appealing context menus, has drawn widespread acclaim from tech reviewers who described the trapped users as 'adding a charming, organic depth to the overall aesthetic.'

9to5Mac gave the redesign four out of five stars, noting only minor complaints that 'the man inside my phone keeps asking me to call his wife.'

Beta tester Gary Purcell, currently existing as a two-dimensional figure within his own iMessage thread, told reporters he was 'cautiously optimistic' about the final release, adding that the new emoji reactions looked 'genuinely gorgeous' from his current vantage point inside the glass substrate layer.

Apple issued a statement saying the absorption of human beings into the UI was 'an unintended feature' that would be addressed in the next build, before adding that affected users could restore themselves by performing a hard reset, which would also delete all their memories since 2019.

'We understand this may be inconvenient,' the statement read. 'As always, we recommend backing up to iCloud before attempting any major interface updates or existential dissolution.'

The full Liquid Glass redesign is expected to roll out to all users this fall, at which point experts estimate the global population will decrease by approximately 12 percent.
